The Paupers' Pandanus

Community Christmas Tree in Rainbow Bay

The advent of Christmas time around Australia is heralded by the magical appearance of christmas lights & decorations in public areas. But this year it looks like Santa neglected to add someone to the 'nice' list. Forgotten Rainbow Bay residents have been left in the dark this year as the Gold Coast City Council omitted them from the decorating budget.

Not to be defeated by scrooge-like bureaucracy the Friends of Rainbow Bay (with the permission of GCCC) instead chose to put on their elf-ears and get busy. The recipient of their efforts has been a rather unsuspecting Pandanus tree at the junction of Ward Street and Marine Parade, which now finds itself festooned with tinsel, lights and random accoutrements.

Suddenly thrust into the limelight and christened "The Pauper's Pandanus" this unusual looking christmas tree is now awaiting yuletide offerings of tinsel and baubles, so if you have some spare decorations to contribute then pop along and either place them on the tree (no nails or climbing please) or leave them in the designated bucket and someone else will add them for you.

A festive star will be ceremoniously placed at the top of the tree at 5pm on Mon 22nd December, so come on down to Rainbow Bay in your favourite xmas outfit and join in.

A Christmas Pandanus is about as right as a Pandanus can get. Here's to the dressing up for 2014.
